THE LOVELIES PRESENT: SLICE & DICE with Donnell Oakley on MAY 1

April 7, 2016

We're excited to be sharing a room with Donnell Oakley and her latest work on May 1st for Slice & Dice! Donnell Oakley is an independent choreographer, performer and teacher based in Brooklyn, New York. She's been working on a piece entitled Being Magnificent. Being Marginal with performers: Sara Barney, Carolyn Cryer, Courtney Drasner &  Jordan Risdon and music by John Luther Adams, Gil Scott-Heron & Jamie xx, Three Dog Night, and samplings of Animal Collective and Kendrick Lamar!

Here's a more about this work:

Allow us to introduce myself encapsulates the feeling of the multiple lenses through which we see ourselves. We percieve the world and the way we move around in it depending on the moment or the mob around us. Can we see better if we're in the center of things or at its edges? We are trying to reconcile these identities and wrap our arms around the whole package that is our selves.

Come watch some art, eat, drink, mingle, and jingle!

Donnell has had her work produced through Movement Research, the 92nd Street Y, the West End Theatre, Triskelion Arts, the Joyce SoHo, Dance Now NYC, Dance New Amsterdam, Dixon Place, Gibney Dance Center, The Yard, among others and received the Bessie Schönberg Choreographic Mentorship Residency from The Yard in 2013.

In addition to her independent work Donnell currently collaborates with Doug Elkins Choreography Etc, Chavasse Dance & Performance, SteeleDance, Cori Marquis + The Nines [IX], and the incredible ladies of LMn'O3: Deborah Lohse and Cori Marquis. BFA: University of North Carolina at Greensboro, 2001.
